Investigating mechanisms to address challenges in Iran's environment and water sectors based on the People's Government Transformation Document

Abstract

The environment and water are two essential elements for human life and all living beings. In today's world, water crises, climate change, and environmental pollution pose serious threats to these resources. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the challenges and mechanisms of Iran’s environment and water sector based on the "People-Centered Transformation Document." This research is applied in its objective, descriptive in its subject matter, and uses a questionnaire-based method. Initially, through library research, challenges related to the environment and water were identified using the government’s transformation document. Then, data was collected through a questionnaire from 12 participants using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) pairwise comparison method. The study includes 5 main criteria and 10 sub-criteria, which were analyzed and ranked using Expert Choice software. The findings of this research are as follows: Among the main challenges, the "imbalance between water resources and consumption," with a weight of 0.410, ranked first. The challenge titled "destruction of biodiversity, genetic reserves, and the quantitative and qualitative decline of ecosystems" received the lowest weight of 0.132 and ranked last. Similarly, among the sub-challenges, "inefficient water management," with the highest weight of 0.270, ranked first, while "land use change," with the lowest weight of 0.044, ranked the lowest. Considering the ranking of these challenges and the identification of the critical issues in Iran’s environment and water sector, the following actions can be taken to address them: Saving water consumption, reducing pollution, protecting natural resources, promoting education and awareness Supporting environmental .
